A stylish Brazilian-English Fusion Celebration at the Iconic Kew Gardens
C&J’s wedding was one of the most beautiful and culturally rich celebrations I’ve had the pleasure to plan and design. Held at the stunning Kew Gardens, this wedding perfectly blended Brazilian vibrancy with English elegance, reflecting the unique love story of C&J.
The journey to creating this unforgettable day began with a clear vision: to transform the iconic Kew Gardens Orangery into a space that exuded both elegance and warmth, mirroring the couple's personalities and cultures. Every detail was meticulously planned, from the contemporary floral arrangements to the eclectic music selection that kept the dance floor alive well into the night.
The Ceremony: A Vision of Wondrous White
The ceremony, held in the Nash Conservatory, was a picture-perfect moment. With dappled afternoon light streaming through the glass walls, we transformed the space into an enchanting white wonderland. The aisle, designed to seamlessly integrate into the architecture of the conservatory, was adorned with a meadow of white roses, twinkling candles, and statement urns overflowing with roses, orchids, and hydrangeas. As C&J exchanged their heartfelt vows, officiated by a Brazilian priest, the floral arrangements framed them beautifully, creating a romantic and ethereal atmosphere that their guests will never forget.
The bride made a stylish entrance to her ceremony in a classic Rolls Royce, a detail that added a touch of regal elegance to the day. Fun fact: the only other time the Kew Gardens gates open is for royalty. She looked absolutely breathtaking in her bespoke dress by British designer Caroline Castigliano.
The Drinks Reception: Elegance on the Banks Lawn
After the ceremony, guests were invited to a picturesque drinks reception on the Banks Lawn, offering stunning views of the lake. Endless champagne flowed as a string quartet serenaded the guests, enhancing the serene and elegant atmosphere. To ensure everyone’s comfort, we set up chic white lounge furniture and umbrellas, creating a stylish and relaxing environment where guests could mingle and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.
The Reception: A Celebration of Cultures
The reception in the Orangery was where C&J’s Brazilian-English heritage truly shined. We designed the tablescape as a vision of subtle elegance, with crisp white linen, blue rose charger plates, soft pale blue napkins, and coordinating blue-tinted glassware. Striking modern Brazilian-inspired florals added a unique touch, creating a setting that was both sophisticated and inviting. The fusion menu offered a taste of both cultures, and the dessert table was a highlight, featuring an impressive display of a thousand Brigadeiro’s—a sweet tribute to the bride’s Brazilian roots.
Music played a central role in the evening's festivities. Starting with live music during dinner, the celebration smoothly transitioned into a lively party atmosphere, with Latin DJ tracks and energetic band performances that kept the dance floor packed. Guests kicked off their shoes, slipping into Havaianas provided especially for dancing, and celebrated until the very last note.
I often say that the details make the difference, and this wedding was no exception. The stationery, beautifully designed with double-sided English and Portuguese text, added a personal touch that reflected the guest’s languages. The cake, adorned with intricate lace details inspired by the bride’s veil and delicate sugar flowers, was a showstopper, complemented perfectly by the Brigadeiro’s, which were a huge hit among the guests.
Adding to the magic of the day was an international guest list, with friends and family travelling from across the globe, particularly from Brazil, to celebrate with C&J. Their presence added to the joyous atmosphere, making the event not just a wedding, but a true celebration of love that spanned continents.
